BGD 2017: label for Belgrade’s official souvenir, Draško Bošnjak

Finalist in the Rakija BGD 2017 competition
for Belgrade’s official souvenir label.
More than 150 entries and 80 authors,
and the jury singled out this work.

Letters
become a mark
The competition’s theme was the City of Belgrade’s official souvenir, titled BGD 2017, which also serves as the visual for the rakija. The motif is pared down: letters and numbers overlap like transparent layers, losing their original context and taking on a visual character.
A rakija glass hides in the number 17: the top line is the rim, while the 1 and the 7 taper into the glass and its stem.
Two
solutions
A label for a 0.7 liter bottle of quince brandy, Belgrade’s official souvenir for 2017. The city’s name is shortened to three letters, BGD, and the year is part of the mark.

Letters and numbers interweave like transparent layers, in two grays. The letters BG also hide a D.

The second variant, in Cyrillic: a classic serif typeface, set at an angle, like a handwritten label from old bottles.
